New England Road Trip - Drive through New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts

Drive through Connecticut - Rhode Island - Plymouth, MA

Being in a city like New York City for a couple days can quickly feel like you’ve been there for a month. It’s sooooooo busy and you cram in so much while there that the picture timeline creates a sense you’ve been away from home for a hell of a lot longer than you actually were.

Quick math: Ali and I were in New York for three nights and three and a half days. In New York time we were there for a year. We went, we saw, we conquered . . . at least what we wanted to see. I guess the only thing the both of us wanted to see we didn’t have time for was the Brooklyn tour on the Grayline tour bus, but you can go drive through it and see it for yourself. You just have to deal with the New York City traffic!

And so it was for the TGTGs as we checked out of our Ramada hotel in Queens and began the drive to our next destination: Massachusetts. But first . . . we had a couple states to get through!!

Like Connecticut for one. The drive took us north, then east through Connecticut and as most states in New England, it didn’t take long to get through. We made a stop in the adorable town of Darien, CT for a Starbucks tea refill and once we saw a Breugger’s Bagels across the street, decided to take the quick opportunity for a carb refill too. Reloaded and recharged, we were back on the road.

Next state to get through was Rhode Island and Ali and I agreed we might as well stop in Providence to get an idea of what the smallest state in the U.S. looked like and what they had to show off. It turns out the capital Providence is a great representative of its state - it boasts a proud city with beautiful architecture, a great downtown area, and a gorgeous capitol building that rests on the west side of a very nice city.  It’s unfortunate we didn’t get to stay in Providence, let alone anywhere in Rhode Island for a night.

Given its beauty in the daylight, I can only imagine what it’s like at night with the Capitol building all lit up, the Rhode Islanders strolling down the quaint streets that resemble most eastern coastal cities’ and the adorable restaurants filled with Providence citizens and tourists alike enjoying an evening with New England clam chowder and cool fall weather. But it wasn’t to be for us since we were quickly running out of time, so Ali and I continued our journey northeast bound. To Massachusetts . . .

We arrived in Boston in the early evening after a long day of driving, and wanted to immediately collapse in a hotel room to recharge.  Sadly, we struggled to find a hotel there or in ANY surrounding area! Dejected, we had the idea to go halfway between Boston and our next day’s destination, Cape Cod, which is a little town you might have heard of: Plymouth. The brass buckled hats, high white socks, and a hell of a lot of town hospitality made this stop a pleasant one. We found a hotel (Governor Bradford’s) near the ocean relatively cheap and the rooms were simple, but nice. It felt good to drop off our stuff and put our feet up for the night.  Well, positioned for the next day’s Boston excursion, we took it easy and had a quiet night in (much needed after the pace of our New York stay).
